Prof Andrew Morris
Associate Professor of Anaesthesia, University of Cambridge
Dr Conway Morris is Associate Professor of Anaesthesia and Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Emmanuel College. His research interests are in host-pathogen interactions in the context of critical illness, with a particular focus on neutrophil functions and pneumonia. His interest in pneumonia has led to the development of several pathogen-focused diagnostics to enable rapid detection and optimisation of antimicrobial therapy. This work was adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic to enable testing of the air for pathogen DNA and RNA, using this approach to examine the role of portable air filtration devices. This work contributed to studies in this area in Addenbrooke’s Hospital including the AAirDS study. He is the co-director of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine’s Sepsis, Severe Infections and Stewardship learning pathways, co-chair of the British Infection Association/Intensive Care Society joint working group on infections in ICU and was the Royal College of Anaesthetists 2023 Mackintosh Professor.
